1,100 taxis will be put into operation in Guangzhou soon. On July 14th, the bidding work of the 1100-taxis project was completed. A total of eight sub-projects were won by the Baiyun Taxi Group Co., Ltd., and six other taxi companies. The new taxis, to be on the road in 45 days, would be run by local drivers from 6:30am to 0:30am.Drivers would not be allowed to shift during peak period. The municipal Traffic Committee said that the effect of the taxis would be tracked to see whether there was a negative impact of the new taxis on road traffic.

The operation rights of this year's 1,100-Taxi project would be returned to the government after five years' operation, said related authorities. According to the supply and demand situation the government would then decide whether to continue running the project. The winning companies are to receive a comprehensive evaluation on their security management, operation, quality of the drivers, vehicle condition, service and passenger satisfaction. Those who could not meet the requirements would have to stop operation.
