Guangdong government held an award ceremony in Guangzhou on July 14 to honor outstanding Guangdong companies that have obtained China patents. Golden award winner of China patents, Shenzhen-based Huawei Technologies and Dongguan-based Guangdong Zhicheng Champion Group, were granted 1 million yuan as prizes.

As of the end of 2007, the China patent application number from Guangdong has exceeded half a million, with 300,000 being accredited. Guangdong has ranked first in the country in patent applications for 3 consecutive years. Guangdong also accounts for half of China's total patent applications in foreign countries. Guangdong governor Huang Huahua attributed the achievement to the "government's great support".

"From 2003 to 2007, we have invested over 40 million yuan to support projects. The achievement has fully displayed Guangdong's accomplishments in promoting intellectual property rights and increasing core competitiveness."
