Guangdong will further its pilot project of medical insurance this year to cover over 10 million of the urban residents, enlarge the proportion to 80% of the total urban population, said Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua in a working meeting on May 15.

Great progress have made since August 2007 when the program carried out in trial cities of Meizhou, Zhanjiang, Jieyang, Shaoguan, Huizhou and Zhaoqing. At present, the medical insurance has expanded to cover a total of 5.8 million unemployed urban residents, who were once excluded by the medicare net, said Governor Huang,

The meeting urged that the medical insurance should to cover all urbanites in cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Dongguan, Foshan and Zhongshan.
