The Story Collection Contest for the 16th Asian Games Mascot was launched on Tuesday. (Guangzhou Metro Daily)

The Story Collection Contest for the 16th Asian Games Mascot was launched on May 13th at the Guangzhou Overseas Chinese Foreign Language School. At the launch ceremony were 500 students as well as five figures of the mascot: A Xiang, A He, A Ru, A Yi and Le Yangyang. In addition, famous comic artists, including Huang Weiming, Ding Bing and Wang Xiaoyang, were invited to paint at the ceremony.

Works submitted for the story contest should be associated with the name and figure of the mascot of the 16th Asian Games - Le Yangyang - and fully interpret the theme of the contest "Flying Dreams, Harmonious Asia". Entries may be stories or comics including novels, tales, humorous stories or comic strips.

Deadline for contest submissions is September 30th, 2008 (in terms of time on postmarks). Members of the review committee are experts and scholars specialized in various fields. The organizers hope that the strict review procedure can ensure the high quality of the contest. Prize-winning works will be made public between September and October. Besides having their works officially publicized and edited for comics, prize winners will become members of the China Comics Talent Bank and are likely to attend the awarding ceremony for the 5th Oriental Animation & Comic Competition and the 2nd China Comic Artist Conference.
