At noon on April 14th, the Guangzhou Association of Industry and Commerce, the Guangzhou General Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Commerce of Guangzhou Foreign Investment Enterprises and the Chamber of Commerce of Guangzhou Private Enterprises hosted a banquet at the Baiyun International Conference Center to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Reforming and Opening-up and the opening of the 103rd China Import and Export Fair. Over 700 people from all walks of life, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau, and overseas industrial and commercial circles attended the banquet.

Mayor Zhang Guangning said that the Phase II CIEF exhibition building had been put into use this year and the Phase III projects were also under construction. The total area for the three phases of the exhibition buildings will cover an area of over 800,000 square meters with a total construction area of over 1 million square meters. Recently the Guangzhou Municipal CPC Committee and Municipal Government decided to program the entirety of Pazhou into a commercial and trade area focusing on conferences and exhibitions, including the headquarters economy, office buildings, hotels, supporting facilities for the service industry, and building Guangzhou into a conference and exhibition center of Chinese level, Asian Level or even world levels.

Mayor Zhang Guangning also made the remark that Guangzhou would manage the modern service industry well, in addition to the conference and exhibition industries, since it possessed the requirements. In the latter half of this year, the FedEx would transfer its Asian and Pacific Center to the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport. The third runway of the Airport would be launched by then. The Nansha Port, which has been moved 60 kilometers southward, has formed on a comparatively large scale. Also, Guangzhou would push further construction of expressways and highways, further strengthening its connection with neighboring cities.
