There are still two years before the Asian Games in 2010, but the air condition forecasts during the Asian Games has attracted extensive attention from all walks of life since there may frequently be cloudy days with dust haze in November, the month in which the Asian Games is going to be held.
The Municipal Government of Guangzhou, together with environmental protection authorities, are preparing to start research projects on conditions that support haze and take integrated measures to improve the air condition in Guangzhou and surrounding cities, says Wu Dui, Chief Scientist of the Meteorology Administration of Guangdong Province. The research includes the variation features of dust haze and the inter-regional movement characteristics of pollutants.
Apart from current haze prevention measures, Wu Dui suggests that Guangzhou reinforce collaboration with Dongguan and Foshan Cities to further improve the unity of the monitoring mechanisms between Guangdong Province and Hong Kong SAR thus adding depth and breadth to the monitoring report of fine particles (PM 2.5); names of the enterprises that are pollutant sources should be made public in the meantime.
Wu Dui says that "the optimistic estimation is that Guangzhou will take actual measures in this November after the initial research and preparation is completed, and there are only two opportunities for us to conduct experimental research in November of this and next year."
