Recently, the Guangdong Institute of Tropical Diseases under the Institute of Health Quarantine of the China Academy of Inspection and Quarantine came into operation in Huangpu District. The institute would focus on science research, inspection of infectious diseases, training and academic exchange and provide security assurance for entry-exit inspection and quarantine.

The previous Testing Laboratory of Health Quarantine under the Guangdong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau could conduct inspections regarding the Influenza A virus, Dengue virus, Norovirus, salmonella and Legionnaire. In addition, it was responsible for the prevention of serious infectious tropical diseases in eight provinces in southern china.
