It was announced recently that Guangzhou would modify the current emergency system, improving the ability of dealing with emergencies regarding public security, said sources from a conference on work safety held on March 17th.

At the conference, Vice Mayor Gan Xin said that the emergency system should be improved in aspects concerning central command, coordination, rapid response and high efficiency. With the improved emergency systems, relevant departments as well as government officials, in any emergency arises, would take efficient and rapid action, ensure sufficient supplies, analyze relevant information and formulate rescue plans.

With more importance being attached to work safety, accidents, deaths, injuries and direct economic loss in the first two months of 2008 was reduced by 7.7%, 21.9%, 32.3% and 42.9% respectively compared with the same period of last year.
