A week-long fourth Guangzhou Folk Culture Festival and Huangpu Millennium "Polo Birth" Temple Fair commenced yesterday (Mar 16th) at the Nanhai Sea God Temple in Guangzhou. The Polo Birth is a traditional folk event that has been celebrated for over 1000 years and falls on the lunar calendar from February 11 to 13th every year. Our reporter Wang Jianping has more.
The event attracts many visitors. A visitor said, "We burn incense and worship the gods for peace and health, we also pray for good weather, prosperity of the country and its people and peace and harmony. "
The festival features the launch of the ten mile Pearl River Tour in a day from the Nanhai Sea God Temple to Huangpu Military Academy. In addition, Foreign Consuls in Guangzhou will visit the Temple Fair.
