"We will make African people learn more about Guangzhou as well as its citizens", commented twelve volunteers when leaving for the Seychelles for a yearlong voluntary service period to provide programs related to healthcare, education and sports.

At the ceremony, government officials, including Fang Xuan, Member of CPC Guangzhou Standing Committee and Director of Organization Department of Guangzhou Municipality and Li Li, Vice Director of Standing Committee of Guangzhou People's Congress, received the twelve plus ten other volunteers dispatched to the Seychelles last year. Since the time when China promised to dispatch about 300 volunteers to African countries over a three year period at the Beijing China-Africa summit in 2006, this is the second year for Guangzhou to conduct overseas voluntary services on its own.
