Chief Executive (CE) Donald Tsang Yam-kuen said in Beijing yesterday that Guangdong province is studying ways to enhance collaboration with Hong Kong on all fronts and the SAR will do everything to cooperate.
Tsang said that as he summed up for the media his meetings with mainland officials over the past two days in the capital city where he also attended the opening of the National People's Congress (NPC).
Tsang has held meetings with Guangdong province's Party Secretary Wang Yang and Governor Huang Huahua.
After officials from Guangdong province, Hong Kong and Macao SARs have reached a consensus over the funding of the construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the next step is to finish the examination of the construction feasibility and prepare for the tendering process, Tsang told the media in Beijing.
Wang and Tsang were optimistic and have exchanged ideas over the construction progress.
Tsang added that Guangdong province has carried out a study to deepen partnership between the two places with creative ideas.
He welcomed the developmental strategy, saying the SAR government would cooperate with the Guangdong government in the study.
The CE added the study could include the strengthening of cross-border cooperation on infrastructure and promoting the development of Hong Kong's service industry in the province.
Regarding the suggestion that opposition lawmakers should be issued home-visit permits, Tsang said he would certainly support exchanges between (local) political figures and the central government should any of the former wish to do so.
Yet for some issues, actions are better than words, Tsang said, adding that it was not necessary to talk so much.
Tsang also met Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu and introduced to him the plan to relax employment restrictions on non-local students.
In addition, Tsang planned to lead Hong Kong trade missions to Northeast China in the second half of the year to seek opportunities for trading, financing and investment.
He has met deputy minister of the National Development and Reform Commission Zhang Guobao to prepare for the plan.
Tsang will visit Beijing again to attend the closing ceremony of the NPC in mid-March.
