Sources from the provincial departments in charge of cultural issues said that eleven museums and memorials would be opened to visitors free of charge beginning March 1st, 2008 and all the remaining museums were expected to open for free within the following two years.
These eleven museums and memorials include the Guangdong Museum, the Museum of the Peasant Movement Institute founded by Mao Zedong - one of the major founders of the People's Republic of China, the Sanyuanli Anti-British Invasion Museum, Guangzhou Uprising Museum, the Museum of Huanghuagang Uprising Headquarters, the Museum of Huangpu Military Academy, the Museum of Red Palace and Red Square at Haifeng, Yeting Memorial Hall, Yejianying Memorial Hall, Linzexu Memorial Hall at Humen and the Museum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen.
The number of visitors would depend on the handling capacity of the museums or memorials for security of visitors and the protection of cultural relics. Individual visitors should provide the relevant certificates for tickets and visiting groups should make an appointment with the museum or memorial which would make relevant arrangements.
