Sources from the Water Affairs Bureau of Guangzhou Municipality said that Guangzhou Municipality has completed comprehensive improvements in the past year of the Huangpuchong (Huangpu Waterway) located in Haizhu District which was one of the most important projects. In addition to pollution control and construction on both banks, there is a park named Modiesha covering 65 thousand meters which was opened to citizens free of charge.

In Modiesha Park, the trees can be seen along the bank. Also, there are pathways made of cobblestones as well as the architecture of the ancient styles and streams running through them. It is a typical landscape of Lingnan characteristics.

In addition, Watergates have been built where the Huangpu waterway joins the Pearl River. According to Miu Xiaojun, an engineer of the Water Affairs Bureau of Guangzhou Municipality who was in charge of the management of the waterways, the Watergates could play an important role in controlling floods and reserving water.

As part of the comprehensive improvement, an exhibition hall would be built beside the north Watergate to demonstrate the distribution of water resources in Guangzhou, construction of hydraulic projects and the relationship between the citizens and water.
