Shenzhen is always the bullet head of China's innovation. The city's hi-tech industry yielded 630.6 billion RMB in 2006, up 28.8 percent year on year. The industry's output accounted for 31.8 percent of the city's gross GDP. And the hi-tech enterprises in the city had become the main force of its innovation capacity building.
Currently, Shenzhen has over 30,000 hi-tech and R&D enterprises. In the coming three years, the hi-tech industry's contribution to GDP is expected to climb to 35 percent and the hi-tech products they produced with intellectual property rights will take up 65 percent of output of the hi-tech industry. The city will input over 3.5 percent of its GDP to R&D, and will sell 70 billion USD worth of high-tech products to oversea markets.
