Futian Checkpoint, the second border crossing between Futian District, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, will open to the public at 4 p.m. today.
The new checkpoint, the only link between Shenzhen Metro and Kowloon-Canton Railway East Rail, is expected to cut the travel time between Shenzhen鈥檚 central business district and downtown Hong Kong to about half an hour.

The border authority has suggested passengers take the Metro or buses to the checkpoint, because private cars and taxis will not be allowed to park near the border crossing.
By walking through a 240-meter-long air-conditioned corridor, border crossers who get off at the Huanggang Station by Metro can reach Lok Ma Chau in the northwest New Territories of Hong Kong, and then transfer to a branch line of the Kowloon-Canton Railway East Rail.
The Shenzhen-Hong Kong border is located right in the middle of the corridor, marked by a dark-red marble line.
The corridor overlooks the Shenzhen River and offers a good view.
The checkpoint will be in service from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. initially, and will be able to handle 250,000 passengers daily, according to the checkpoint authority.
The most convenient way to reach the checkpoint is by Metro Line 4, which has an exit on the first floor of the Futian Checkpoint Building at Huanggang Station.
Then one simply needs to take an elevator to the third floor of the Futian Checkpoint Building to clear customs, walk through the corridor and enter the Hong Kong checkpoint.
Metro trains on Line 4 run at an interval of 10 minutes and stop at Children鈥檚 Palace, Fumin, the Convention and Exhibition Center, and the Huanggang Checkpoint. Line 4 intersects with Line 1 at the Convention and Exhibition Center Station.
To reach the checkpoint, Shenzheners can also take buses No. 91, No. 52, No. 203, No. 241. No. 52 and No. 203 to Luohu, and No. 241 and No. 91 to Futian.
From the other side of the checkpoint, people can travel to downtown Hong Kong via train, bus, or taxi. Buses operate from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily.
The new Futian Checkpoint, which is 100 meters from the Huanggang Checkpoint, has been built to alleviate the overcrowding at the latter caused by tens of thousands of passengers and vehicles crossing the Shenzhen-Hong Kong border every day.
