With a GDP of 500 billion USD, Guangdong and HK's total GDP has passed Switzerland and ranked the 17th of the world last year. Meanwhile the two neighbors yielded 350 billion USD foreign trade.
"The people in Hong Kong and Guangdong have common interests. Guangdong has contributed a lot to Hong Kong's success in the past 10 years," said Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang.
The two neighbors have received remarkable growth in bilateral cooperation. Guangdong has attracted 150 billion USD of investment from HK, also up to 100,000 Hong Kong funded businesses are registered in Guangdong in recent years. At the same time the two areas saw more talent flows.
The Guangdong-HK business center boasts to be the busiest logistic center of the region, with a flow of 15 million vehicles and 150 million passengers last year.
Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua and Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang have reached common ground on making the region one of the most prosperous and vibrate economic centers by making full advantage of Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA), and enhancing cooperation in the areas of infrastructure and customs, environmental protection, food safety and public health in the next five years. .
