On June 10th, the Eighth National University Games torch lighting ceremony and a torch relay were held at the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center. Led by Olympic champion Yang Jinghui, university students of Guangzhou ran a torch relay around the center.
At 8:30am on June 10th, outside the main gate of Sun Yat-Sen University, with an order of the provincial government's deputy secretary general Mr. Luo Ou, a female university student lit a torch accompanied by Radetzky March. The torch was handed over to Mr. Luo Ou, and then to Mr. Luo Weiqi, director of the Provincial Education Office, and to Mr. Yang Jinghui, the first torch bearer of Sun Yat-Sen University and the Athens Olympic Men's Synchronized Diving 10m Platform winner. Yang Jinghui held up the torch to the audience and the lighting ceremony was completed successfully. Then, 80 torch bearers, 160 escorts and 3,200 runners from 10 universities ran the torch relay; and torch hand-over ceremonies were held between students of different universities .
The Eighth National University Games will be held in July this year in the center.
