On the afternoon of May 23, the Fangcun Branch (Guangzhou Mercy Hospital) of Guangzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine held an opening ceremony for the charity projects with donations from Hong Kong, Macau and overseas compatriots. According to insiders, from now on, the receiver of any donation from Hong Kong, Macau and overseas compatriots shall ink contracts with the donator in terms of the projects' capital, construction, management and purpose. All donations will have opening ceremonies.

According to statistics, since 1949, especially after China's opening up in 1978, Guangzhou has received donations of money and property valued at 3.6 billion RMB from Hong Kong, Macau and overseas compatriots, among which 2.878 billion went to Guangzhou city (including the districts, counties and departments under the jurisdiction of Guangzhou Municipality), and 740 million RMB went to units under the jurisdiction of the Ministries of central government. A huge number of cultural relics and treasures were also donated.
