It is known from the China National Tourism Administration on May 24th that in a bid to welcome the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Beijing launched a cooperation mechanism with the top ten tourist cities in China, including Guangzhou, Shanghai and Xi'an. They established the Cooperation Federation of Top Tourist Cities in China, a move to introduce to the world the classic tourist routes for the Beijing Olympics.

The ten cities are Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Xi'an, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Kunming, Chengdu, Harbin and Guilin. Delegates from these 11 cities are gathered in Beijing to sign the Framework Agreement for Cooperation between Beijing and Other Top Tourist Cities in China. Under the agreement, these cities are to jointly set up a long-term cooperation mechanism, enhance exchanges and cooperation between their tourist associations, and build an intercity goodwill tourism system.
