Shenzhen's civil affairs authority launched a Web site Sunday to help vagrant children return home.
The Web site, www.axxq.org, posts pictures and other information about all the children living at Shenzhen Aid Center.
The center is home to 72 children aged between 6 and 12 years old, said Liu Runhua, director general of the municipal civil affairs bureau.
Some of the children fell prey to people smugglers and were forced to survive by begging. Some have been at the center for as long as two years.
It is hoped the Web site will help a large number of the 2,174 children who sought help from the center last year. Some of them could not recall their home addresses, phone numbers or even the names of their parents.
The project is funded by Shenzhen Welfare Lottery Center, which sold 963 million yuan (US$125 million) of lottery tickets last year, up 44 percent from a year before.
