According to the Guangzhou Municipal Construction and Urban Utilities Bureau, the Municipal Government has earmarked more than RMB 100 million for the renovation of the four thoroughfares in Guangzhou - Dongfeng Road, Huanshi Road, Guangzhou Avenue, and Zhongshan Road, with a combined length of 33.28 km. The renovation will include redesign and improvement of bicycle lanes, sidewalks and facilities along the roads which have been subject to significant wear and tear.
Local transportation authorities have taken steps to improve traffic conditions on the Zhongshan No. 1 Overpass and Tianhe Overpass; they have also worked out plans to rectify transportation conditions on the Eastern and Western Eryu Overpasses.
The planned renovation of the thoroughfares will be based on an automobile traveling speed of 60 km per hour. Some sections of the roads may be expanded by demolishing existing buildings. There are also plans to pave all roads with modified asphalt.
