Two best-selling brand name frozen dumplings have been found to contain excessive bacteria, the Daily Sunshine said yesterday.
"Sinian" and "Longfeng" dumplings have been blacklisted by health authorities in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, after Staphylococcus aureus was found in products of the two brands.
A Shirble department store in Jingtian, Shenzhen, has promised a refund on "Sinian" and "Longfeng" dumplings for consumers with receipts. Vanguard has also begun an investigation at its stores into the problem dumplings. The two brands take up nearly half of many supermarkets' freezers and some of the dumplings may have been sold, the report said.
But the report did not disclose the batch numbers of problem products.
Shenzhen's food industry association reminds citizens to buy packaged foods and avoid those containing too much ice in the packaging, which could show it has been defrosted and refrozen several times.
Staphylococcus aureus can cause a range of illnesses from minor skin infections to pneumonia and blood poisoning.
