Color Plan for Certain Parts of the Eight Key Areas

On March 19, the Architectural & Environmental Arts Committee released the "Guangzhou City Colors Planning Research (draft)", which proposes a yellowish gray as Guangzhou's main color. The draft, which also includes a complementary color scheme and the color plan for certain parts of the eight key areas, is presented in order to elicit comments from the public.

Due to Guangzhou's special geographic location, its' environment, variety of natural landscapes, culture and urban layout and other factors, the city's colors should be a combination of different colors and the main color should have medium brightness and color purity rather than low brightness and high purity, said Guo Hongyu, associate professor of Sun Yat-Sen University and head of the research project.

Yellowish gray agrees with the city's bright sunlight, short summer, long winter and natural environment and will be a nice background color for cultural activities. More importantly, yellowish gray is suited to both low buildings of the old urban areas and the high buildings of the new areas.
