According to concerned units of the Guangzhou Forestry Bureau, the Renovation Planning of Forest Stands on the Banks of Liuxihe River and Zenghe River has passed the evaluation by experts. In the coming 10 years, the concerned units will invest hundreds of millions of RMB to renovate the forest stands on the banks of the above mentioned rivers. According to a rough estimate by experts, there will be an annual increase of 4,166,000 thousand cubic meters of water storage in the planned area, creating water conservation benefits of RMB 12.50 million. There will also be an annual decrease of 666 thousand tons of soil erosion, providing a guarantee for Guangzhou's water source security. Adding to the fact that forests can also purify the air, the project can generate an annual ecological economic benefit of up to hundreds of millions of RMB.

The Renovation Project has been listed as a major project of the "Green Asian Games - Ecological Public Welfare Forestry Conservation Project", which is one the 9 projects of the "Eleventh Five-year Plan" for Guangzhou's forestry. The project covers the areas within the first ridge of the natural terrain on the banks of Liuxihe River and Zenghe River, and the areas within 500 meters of the first ridge and the plain of the natural terrain around the Liuxihe Reservoir. The project covers a total area of 11252.84 hectares with a total investment of more than RMB 160 million over 10 years.
