According to the labor supply and demand statistics at the end of 2006 released by the Guangzhou Labor Market Center on February 26, 2007, the aggregate supply and demand had reached 3 million people, the opening rate had decreased by 0.34, to 1:1.2 from the 1:1.54 of 2005 and the labor supply shortage also had slowed down.

Zhang Baoying, Director of the Center said that there were three reasons for the situation. First, the generation born in the 1980's is coming into the employment peak; second, the employment pace for rural labor transfer and farmers to citizens is quickening; and third, there has been an effective major employment channel in the labor market.

The enterprises are also gradually losing control over gender and registered permanent residence for job seekers. 50% of  enterprises said that both male & female were acceptable when recruiting employees, and 86.3% had no restrictions on the applicants' registered permanent residence. However, age is still a big problem, and 70% of the enterprises desire employees under the age of 35. The educational background of the applicants also had an obvious improvement, and 80.5% of the total people surveyed were high school graduates or above .
