REPRESENTATIVES of the city's trade associations suggested the city government build more bicycle lanes, international schools and attach greater importance to industrial design in its overall plan for the years up to 2020.
The municipal urban planning bureau invited 15 officials from different trade associations to give their opinions on the overall plan, which is being drawn up by the bureau.
Wang Zhaowen, secretary general of the Shenzhen Federation of Industrial Economics, suggested the government restrict cars in the central business area and build more bicycle lanes. "Promoting the use of bicycles has become a symbol of civilization across the world," said Wang. He said about 70 percent of bicycles exported by China were made in Shenzhen, which was very strong in both the research and manufacture of bicycles.
Wang Zhenyuan, secretary general of the Shenzhen Entrepreneurs Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, called for more care for expatriates and returned overseas Chinese.
He said it was difficult for children of a returned overseas Chinese to enter a good school, adding that such difficulties could result in the loss of talent for the city.
Xue Feng, an official with the urban planning bureau, revealed that the city government had planned to build a new international school or expand an existing international school. "The city government has resolved to solve the problem," said Xue.
Li Minxiang, chairman of the Shenzhen Design Union, said there were too many "creative bases" in the city but not enough support for industrial design.
