All sub-districts in Haizhu District will build an integrated public security rectification work center before the end of March this year. The district will also construct more than 200 fully- and semi-enclosed residential estates and add over 2,000 surveillance cameras by the end of this year.
On January 16, the CPC Haizhu District Committee and Haizhu District Government held a work conference on strengthening grassroots public security, announcing that this year they would allocate an additional RMB 60 million to upgrade the district's public security infrastructure and make it an impregnable fortress with enclosed-courtyard style management and an extensive network of surveillance cameras.
With regard to enclosed-courtyard style estates, an additional RMB 5 million will be spent to build more than 400 new fully- and semi-enclosed estates (not including commercial estates built by developers). Over 50% of them will be completed by the end of this year, 80% by next year, and 100% by 2009.
As for security surveillance, in addition to the existing 3,000 surveillance cameras, Haizhu District will spend about RMB 30 million to install 2,000 more cameras district-wide, and the existing ones will also be upgraded and integrated into unified management. New surveillance cameras will be installed before September on all roads and in all public places, important institutions, areas with frequent street crime, belts between urban and suburban zones, and residential estates in the district.
