On the morning of January 7, Tianhe Stadium was crowded with flower farmers bidding for positions at the Tianhe Spring Festival Flower Market.

This is the first auction for positions at a series of flower markets to be held during the spring festival in Guangzhou. After fierce competition, a record high of RMB 4,600 was paid for the best position in the Peach Blossom Area.

Altogether 1,448 bidding documents, for 618 positions at the market, were received before the opening of the auction, said Ma Delian, Market Management Chief of the Administration of Industry & Commerce of Tianhe District.

The prices for the best positions in different areas of the market are: RMB 3,219 for the best position in the Potted Flowers Area, RMB 2,150 for the best position in the Fresh Flower Area, RMB 3,010 for the best position in the Artware Area, RMB 4,600 for the best position in the Peach Blossom Area, RMB 708 for the best position in the Goldfish Area, and RMB 3,300 for the best position in the area selling "special purchases for the Spring Festival".

The number of bidders and the prices of the best positions are basically the same as those of last year, said an official at the Management Office of Tianhe Flower Market.

Bidding for all positions, excluding some reserved for non-commercial use, was closed on the afternoon of January 7.
