On December 26, the municipal government announced that broad band users of China Telecom Guangzhou Branch (Guangzhou CT) exceed 1 million, making Guangzhou the first provincial city in China that has over 1 million broad band users. Over 35 percent of families and over 65 percent of enterprises now have broad band connections to the Internet. The information infrastructure of Guangzhou has reached an advanced level.
During the "eleventh five year period", Guangzhou CT will input over RMB 10 billion to carry out the following eight measures for the establishment of a "Digital Guangzhou":
- To optimize the "BizNavigator" platform;
- To implement the "Information Home" project;
- To establish a video monitoring system;
- To promote the implementation of the E-government project;
- To establish the "Virtual Guangzhou" platform;
- To promote information technology application in the education and medical sectors;
- To promote information technology application in rural areas;
- To promote information technology application in tourism and culture sectors.
