At the December 19th press conference , it was announced that the Convention will be held at Guangzhou International Conference and Exhibition Centre December 28 - 30, 2006.
Vice Mayor Gan Xin said one of the highlights would be attendance by top-level Scholars. 646 technical projects will be featured.
As of December 19th, 1,783 scholars had registered, 51 percent, and 45 percent of the registrants had master's and doctoral degrees respectively. A group of world leading scientists will lecture at seven high level forums.
The assessment of projects for the 2006 "Chunhui Cup" was completed and 163 overseas Chinese scholars were named finalists. Awards will be given to the three projects that attracted the most investment. Vice Mayor Gan said that overseas Chinese scholars had made great contributions to the economic development of Guangzhou. In Guangzhou, 10,000 overseas Chinese scholars are conducting nearly 600 projects, most of which involve high level new technologies.
In order to develop software, cartoons and animation industries, Guangzhou now needs a large number of related experts. Overseas Chinese scholars will be an indispensable force for the development of the software industry in the future.
