Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Wang Zhengguo, suggested conducting psychological test for professional drivers at a forum in Guangzhou yesterday (Dec 17).

Wang pointed out that the amount of traffic accidents is closely related to drivers' psychology and that some drivers don't have the psychological ability to drive safely and therefore making them trouble makers on the road. He said that to effectively prevent car accidents; professional drivers' psychological conditions should be tested.

In addition, Wang's research with Jinan University shows that 50 percent of Guangzhou's traffic accidents are related to motorcycles. He said that due to weak protection, motorcycle drivers or passengers are first to get hurt in a collision.

As Guangzhou is about to ban motorbike driving next month, he expressed his support and said the new measure will effectively prevent road accidents.
