An infertile man has been ordered to divorce and pay his wife 25,000 yuan (US$3,196) in compensation after he persuaded her to have sex with another man so that she could have a child, in Lechang, Guangdong Province.

The man, Zhang, signed a contract with his wife, Qin, promising not to dump her when she had sex with another man to get pregnant.

Zhang arranged for a man to have sex with Qin in late 2004. But he broke his commitment when Qin gave birth to a daughter last year.

Qin filed for divorce, asking for compensation of 50,000 yuan (US$6,393).

The Shaoguan Intermediate People's Court ruled that Zhang had violated Qin's right to dignity and should pay compensation. But the court also said that Qin had made a mistake by agreeing to Zhang's plan.
