In the next year, Guangdong provincial government will use 150 million RMB of its fiscal revenue to improve the medical services in rural area.

At present, 80 percent of Guangdong's advanced medical services and machines are owned by large hospitals in its urban areas. And among the over 1000 small medicare centers in rural areas, about 2/3 do not have enough fund and facilities. In some remote villages, doctors are not willing to stay in its medicare center because of the low payment.

According to the plan, from next year, every town-level government shall establish one medicare center and every 10,000 residents shall have 10-12 doctors and nurses.

In recent years, about 60 percent of the rural population had joined the rural cooperative medicare system. Next year, the provincial government will raise the per capita medicare subsidy and more medical operations, such as mental illness and baby delivery, will be covered by the medicare welfare system.
