A heavy traffic jam blocked Guangzhou Bridge, which crosses the Pearl River, for about an hour on Sunday when a couple stopped their car in the middle of the bridge during a fierce row.
Chen, the driver, stopped his car on the busy bridge at around 2pm while he quarrelled with his female passenger, said to be his wife.
He got out of the car and scolded the woman loudly.
Cars stretched back more than 1 kilometre behind the stationary vehicle.
Traffic returned to normal at about 2:50pm when other drivers reported the incident to police.
The couple was detained.
Chen is in his 30s and is thought to be a local businessman.
