A 3.05-kilogram female baby girl was born in the Guangzhou Municipal No. 12 People's Hospital on Saturday. This is the first baby born in water in Guangzhou. After a one-hour spontaneous underwater delivery, her mother Ms. Wong was able to walk and hold the baby in her arms, according to Guangzhou Daily.

"I cannot swim, but this water delivery pool is much more comfortable than the bathtub at home," said Ms. Wong, "It was a special experience, and we will tell the story to our baby."
The medical costs for underwater deliveries have not been confirmed. However, they could be 1,000 - 1,200 yuan more than the cost of a normal delivery.
Twice the size of a common bathtub, the delivery pool in the underwater delivery room at the hospital was imported from Denmark.
As the water in the delivery pool is similar to the amniotic fluid of the womb, pregnant women will have loose muscles during deliveries. As a result, underwater delivery shortens the period of delivery and eases the pain of delivery. Furthermore, it has little effect on sex life.
