Guangzhou transportation authorities announced that, from today "Yang Cheng Tong" stored-value cards can be automatically reloaded by putting them close to an automatic reloading machine. The automatic reloading service is the first of its kind in China.

Starting today, the first batch of more than 270 automatic reloading machines will be put into service on stations along Metro Lines 1 and 2, and 5,000 to 10,000 such machines will be installed in subway and bus stations and in supermarkets and vegetable markets over the next five years.

To reload cards on these automatic machines, cardholders just need to tie their cards to an account in one of five designated banks and activate the account. A cardholder may make one reload of up to RMB 50 to 100 per day.

Cardholders will be able to report the loss of a card 24 hours a day by calling 8767 1110 to suspend the automatic reloading.
