The Guangzhou Institute of Health Inspection organized seven executive teams and examined over 30 restaurants in the city yesterday (Sep.5th).
They inspected the cooking and sales condition of raw seafood such as freshwater fish, shrimp, crab, and shellfish. These inspections are aimed to prevent Angiostrongylus Cantonensis disease and other parasitic diseases, which could be caused by eating uncooked aquatic products.
Huang Bei, deputy director of the Guangzhou Institute of Health Inspection, said that it was forbidden to sell freshwater raw seafood in restaurants. From Sep.1st to 10th, restaurants that sell uncooked fish to diners will be given a warning. However, from Sep 11th, those still violating the regulation will be fined 3,000 yuan to 5,000 yuan, or even have their permits withdrawn.
