The Health, Welfare and Food Bureau of Hong Kong announced yesterday (July 3) that Hong Kong will resume imports of live chicken, day-old chicks and fowls from Guangdong beginning July 6. The import number will remain the same as before, 20,000 live chicken and 20,000 chicks per day.
Hong Kong suspended chicken imports from Guangdong on June 16; one day after a human bird flu case was confirmed in Shenzhen. The Health, Welfare and Food Bureau decided to resume imports after assessing the public health situation to be "safe".
