A foreign cargo freighter collided with a Dongguan oil tanker on the South China Sea yesterday (June 20).
Dongguan Fenghai Marine Company's oil tanker, Fengdayou, was sailing from Shanghai to Guangdong's Huangpu at about 12:15, 25 sea miles south of Shantou.
It collided with a Panamanian cargo freighter causing water to flow into the engine room. 18 crew members were in serious danger and were forced to abandon ship.
After receiving the distress call, the Nanhai Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Communications (Nanhai Rescue) immediately sent its Nanhai Rescue 131 to the spot. All 18 crew members who were involved were saved.
At 18:35, the oil tanker was dragged to Shangtou's Haimen anchorage ground. The Fengdayou was carrying 4,800 tons of aviation coal oil, a level one dangerous cargo.
