Guangzhou Metro Company announced today that, starting from July, at all stations on the first section of Metro lines 3 and 4 and some stations on Metro lines 1 and 2,TV programs will be shown to subway passengers. And, that by October, passengers will have access to TV throughout Metro Lines 1 and 2, with 5,000 mini TV sets showing public information programs. A successful trial broadcast was conducted on December 26, 2005 on platforms, in station halls and on trains of Metro lines 3 and 4. Following the trial, over 5,000 plasma and LCD screens have been installed, as part of the progressive improvement of Metro Lines 1 and 2, this year.
Subway TV will broadcast a 30-minute program continuously for 12-17 hours a day while the subway is running. Currently, it is intended that programming will be updated at three day or weekly intervals. However, as network technology improves, a greater variety of TV programs will be shown, and following installation of a centralized control system, the content will be updated on a real-time basis. Guangzhou's metro system uses state-of-the-art cable and radio transmission technologies to ensure stable and sharp TV pictures on high-speed trains. Following installation of the central control system, subway TV programming will enjoy greater flexibility in terms of time and place - different programs will be broadcast on different trains, lines, platforms and stations and in different directions on station platforms.
