The standard fee for Guangdong digital TV subscribers was announced on April 19 by Guangdong Price Control Administration and Guangdong Administration of Radio, Film and Television. 

Digital TV subscribers will now be charged an additional fee to the sum they pay to the cable TV company.  The new standard, which will take effect May 2006, regulates that the additional fee should be no more than 9.5 yuan per month.

Elderly people without kids and financial support and families having financial difficulties will be given special policies. During the switch from traditional broadcasting to digital, each subscribed household can get one set-top box at no charge. Digital TV broadcasts are expected to cover urban areas in Guangdong by 2008. Before that, 5 analogue telecasts will still be provided to viewers.
