The Guangzhou Agricultural Technology Promotion Center has recently built an aquatic animal isolation and monitoring center (known as "star-rated villas for aquatic animals").
The building of the center means that the aquatic industry now has its own isolation zone, similar to those that have already been constructed for land animals and plants.
The completion of the center marks the commencement of full operations of the Guangzhou Aquaculture Disease Prevention & Control System, which has cost more than RMB 3 million to build.
The purpose of the system is to insure the quality of aquatic products that end up on local residents' dining tables.
According to experts at the Center, alien aquatic species placed into isolation at the center will remain there for at least two years for observation and will only be released to the public if no problems have been detected during this time.
