The municipal urban planning bureau has set aside 16 sites for sorting garbage, the Shenzhen Evening News reported yesterday.

The plan has been sent to the municipal government and is expected to obtain approval by the end of the year. After the sites are put into use, all the city's garbage will be sent to the sites to be sorted, said Luo Xiliang, director general of the municipal trade and commerce bureau. Seven of the sites are in Bao'an, eight in Longgang, and one in Nanshan.

The government has vowed to regulate the garbage recycling industry, which has attracted about 2,000 garbage sorting units in the city because of the low entry threshold and high profits. Only 950 of the units are legal.

The government has loosened its control on garbage recycling companies. In the past, starting a garbage disposal company required various administrative approvals.

Now people only need to register with the authority before starting a garbage recycling company. However, the government requires all the garbage disposal companies to have indoor warehouses.
