Guangzhou will build a three-tier waste recycling and recovery system, consisting of community recovery stations, an integrated recycled resources transaction and utilization center, and a harmful solids and hazardous waste treatment center.
Local authorities have set their sights on building recycling and recovery stations in at least 90% of residential communities and recycling at least 90% of waste by 2010 with the aim of reducing secondary contamination and making Guangzhou a truly livable city.
A resource recycling website will be launched at the end of April; by logging on to the website at www.gzrrn.cn, local residents will be able to arrange for a recycling agent to remove their waste materials.
By 2008, waste recovery networks will have been built in Yuexiu, Haizhu, Liwan, Tianhe, Baiyun and Huangpu districts.
