The lastest edition of the Shenzhen map features the location of more than 300 public toilets in the city, winning praise from both local residents and visitors, yesterday's Daily Sunshine reported.
This is the first time the information has been made available, the Daily Sunshine report said.
Members of the municipal committee of the CPPCC submitted a proposal last year, suggesting that public toilets be clearly indicated on the reprinted Shenzhen maps. They also suggested that more public toilets be added to the city as the number of toilets was not in proportion to the city's size or population.
The municipal urban administration authorities conducted research after receiving the proposal and in response to the suggestions, put into place some measures, which included the erection of mobile toilets.
Most of the public toilets indicated on the January 2006 edition of the Shenzhen Urban Map are in Longgang, Bao'an and Yantian districts.
A man surnamed Li who came to Shenzhen on business, spoke highly of the new practice. He said the move is significant in the sense that it is people-oriented and reflects the municipal government's commitment to serve the public. "I've met the difficulty in finding a toilet in some other cities," he said. "Shenzhen has done the right thing."
