Yesterday afternoon (Jan 18th), Guangdong Executive Vice-Governor Tang Bingquan met with American Ambassador to China Clark T. Randt, Jr. and the American State Department Overseas Construction Office. During their meeting, they discussed the construction on the permanent American Consulate to Guangzhou building.
According to the Sino-American agreement, the construction in Guangzhou's Zhujiangxincheng will begin this year. It is expected that the construction will be finished before the 2010 Asia Games opens in Guangzhou. Upon its completion, the American Consulate General to Guangzhou will be further expanded to relieve the current insufficient office room constraints.
The American construction office assured Chinese officials that the construction style will be compatible with Zhujiangxincheng's building cluster. And that the US will seek Guangdong's local contractors for construction. Tang said, Guangdong will fully support construction to guarantee successful completion on schedule.
