Counters for "green" vegetables have taken root in more than half of the city's supermarkets with 28 more being added to supermarkets recently.
"Green" vegetables, or vegetables with no poison and minimal amounts of unavoidable harmful substances, can be seen in 92 supermarkets and at 172 booths at the Buji Farm Produce Market, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday.
The 28 green vegetable counters were set up in Renrenle's Futian store, Shirble's Wanxiang store and Rainbow's Meilin store among others, the newspapers said.
Vegetable suppliers are required to pass certain tests by an inspection center of the city's agriculture bureau to be recognized as "green" vegetable suppliers.
Now there are 12 local farms supplying 10 tons of healthy vegetables to the city every day. In large supermarkets, the sale of "green" vegetables accounts for one third of the total vegetable sales though the price is 10 to 30 percent higher, according to the newspaper.
