A shenzhen college student has established her own business, which brought in more than 100,000 yuan (US$12,500) in two months.
He Dongmei, a student of Shenzhen Senior Technical Institute, said she wanted to find a new job after graduation, even after she had set up two basketball stores and a branch of the famous Internet portal NetEase.
She was admitted to Shenzhen Senior Technical Institute in 2001. In 2004, she began to consider establishing her own business. As a basketball fan, she found it hard to buy basketballs and related products in Bao’an and it gave her the inspiration to open her own basketball store. She opened her second store in 2005.
A new business opportunity came a few months later. NetEase was looking for an agent in Shenzhen in October. Being a computer technology major, she thought it would be a good way to combine her business experience and her computer know-how.
She sold half of her stake in her stores to raise 80,000 yuan to pay the agency fee required by NetEase.
Apart from having to look after the branch’s technology, she also worked as a salesperson for the online channel.
“Once I saw an ad on a road about a construction products fair. I came to the organizers and persuaded them to reach an agreement with me, from which I earned 50,000 yuan,” she said.
In the past two months, she had recruited more than 100 people as part-time salespeople and also hired three technicians for the online business.
Now, she shuttles between her business in Bao’an and her school in Futian. She has to leave her company at 6 a.m. to attend school, and then rush back to her business after 3 p.m. She works until 10 p.m.
She also has plans to collaborate with stores in Huaqiangbei and Dongmen — the two best-known business areas in Shenzhen — to open their online businesses.
