Tourism Festival to close tomorrow

This year's Marine World International Food Festival, from Nov. 22 to Dec. 1, just may be one for the records. Fifty professional chefs will be cooking teppanyaki along a blazing 100-meter-long stainless steel strip. What may be the world's longest teppanyaki grill is being prepared for the Guinness Book of World Records.

At night, with fires burning under the giant steel strip, it's expected to look like a huge fire dragon making its way through Shekou's Sea World Plaza.

Chef Li Chunhua, former teppanyaki chef in Shanghai's Jinjiang Hotel and Guangzhou's Citic Plaza, now with a Japanese restaurant in Shekou, will be presiding over the team grilling seafood, meat and vegetables. To keep the ingredients fresh, Wal-Mart is providing a refrigerator truck.

For beer lovers, Lowenburg, the centuries-old Munich beer now brewed in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, is preparing 50 large barrels of wheat beer. Freshly brewed beer will be flown in from Suzhou daily. Paulaner, also from Munich, Germany, is flying in barrels of beer for the festival. German brewmasters will be on hand to discuss the fine points of beer making. For those still thirsty for beer after the festival, the Lowenberg Brauerei and Restaurant, billed as the biggest pub in Shenzhen, will be opening later in December aboard the permanently parked Minghua cruise ship in Sea World Plaza.

Not just food and drink, the 10-day festival includes three performance days with classical traditional ethnic dance troupes and a week of parties.
