THE First CEO Summit of the Bo'ao Forum for Asia (BFA) is to be held from Nov. 19 to 21 in Shenzhen, the Secretariat of the forum and the Shenzhen Municipal Government announced at a press conference in Beijing at the weekend.
Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and more than 600 entrepreneurs from Asia and other parts of the world will attend the summit, said BFA Secretary General Long Yongtu.
Long said this summit marks a new platform launched by the BFA for world business leaders. The summit will focus on hot economic issues, emphasizing exchanges and cooperation.
Senior economists from prestigious institutions such as Citigroup, Merrill Lynch, J.P. Morgan, CLSA and Goldman Sachs are invited to comment on global economic trends.
Bjoern Stigson, president of World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and other speakers will make presentations on energy and sustainable development.
Top executives from the world's largest logistics enterprises such as Maersk, UPS and FedEx will discuss logistics issues with their Chinese counterparts.
Real estate developers from China will join government officials in sorting out their respective responsibilities in housing a billion Chinese.
Earlier Long had said the BFA aimed to make the CEO summit another flagship event.
He said Shenzhen was had a fast-growing economy and was close to Hong Kong, which was home to a large number of global media outlets, who would help promote the summit around the world. He said Shenzhen also boasted first-class accommodation.
"The world logistics conference jointly hosted by the Shenzhen government and the BFA was a success last year," Long said.
The BFA was initiated by former Australian Prime Minister Robert James Lee Hawke, former Philippine President Fidel Ramos and former Japanese Prime Minister Hosokawa Morihiro in 1998.
It was officially established Feb. 27, 2001, when delegates from 26 founding member countries adopted the Declaration on the BFA. They held the first BFA annual conference in April 2002.
